National Center for Image Guided Therapy

BOSTON MA - A national resource for image-enhanced medical procedures has been created at the  newly-appointed National Center for Image Guided Therapy (NCIGT).  Under the direction of  Ferenc A. Jolesz M.D. at  Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, this NIH funded center is designed to provide research, training and service-oriented resources for both scientists and clinicians.

Specific resources include image processing and display tools, dynamic and adaptive Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) methods, image-guided robotics , new and novel therapy techniques, with a large concentration on Focused Ultrasound Surgery (FUS). Advances in cardiovascular interventions and targeted drug delivery will also be a focus of the NCIGT.  The center is divided into 6 cores; Imaging, Computation, Image-Guided Prostate Therapy, Focused Ultrasound Surgery, Image-Guided Neurosurgery, and Biostatistics. Overall, the program includes the work of more than one hundred physicians, scientists, and technical staff members.

Funding is for the center is provided from the NCRR, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). Further information about the center is available at www.ncigt.org.
